WAIPA RUGBY UNION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS.

SENIOR (REPS. CONGRATULATED.

The usual weekly meeting of the Waipa Rughy Union Management Committee Avas held on Monday evening, there being present Messrs' F. Quin (president), G. S. Olarke, A. A. Reese, G. B. Melrose, G. Gifford, H. T. /Haselden, H. Philip, G. Reynolds, S. A. McNamara, W. Cavanagh and the secretary Mr E. T. Crump. Messrs W. Whitton and F. Gilbert Avere granted leave of absence

It was decided to defer* making the draw fori the third round of the junior championship until next Monday evening. . - 7 -

The chairman reported that on * Thursday last Mr Gillett had informed him that Ohaupo thirds could not keep their engagement last Saturday. He had sent a message to Mr Anschutz to that effect, -but the message miscarried. He suggested that the game be regarded as having been postponed. The secretary, Waikato Referees’ Association, wrote: “I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 2nd - ins’t regarding the case of Mr J. C. Corboy, for which I thank you. In reply, I first wish to mention that your letter was the first notification my association had received intimating that Mr Corboy was not actually the secretary of the Waipa Rugby Referees Association. When the matter was first reported to my association (on 2/5/1926), the letter w& received was signed by Mr Corboy as hon. secretary W.R.R. A-ssociation, consequently my executive accepted same as having come from that association. If Avhat you noAv inform us is the correct position, my executive havey~ been misled, and had we thought for one minute that Mr Corboy’s case was j not fought by the Waipa Rugby Referees’ Association, my executive would not have dealt with the matter in the Avay it has. We have sent quite a lot of correspondence at different (imes during the past two months .addressed to the hon. see,, Waipa R. R. Association, and if this has all been accepted -by Mr Corboy and not passed on to that association his behaviour is anything but creditable. We are , now Avriting him in connection - with p the whole subject. The chairman said he owed an apology to Parawera Club, whose, action in playing Armstrong in a junior match on 19th inst was questioned. As a matter of fact he (the speaker) had Armstrong’s clearance in his pocket, and had forgotten all about it. The secretary, Maniapoto subunion, wrote re Teddy Shield competition, asking for the draw and whether his ynion is to control those matches in their territory.’ •

The Hamilton Union’s Junior Advisory Board inquired if the Waipa third grade reps, could play the Hamilton thirds at Hamilton,'as a return to last season’s game at Te Awamutu. —lt was decided -to offer the third grade reps to play Hamilton ' fourth grade, or as an alternative Waipa juniors v. Hamilton thirds.' Re the player., A. Still,-who:’was-in-jured in the Te! AAvamutu-Kawa match, the latter club’s secretary advised that the player is now off the doctor’s list. —It was decided to ask ' for fuller information before paying out from the insurance fund.

The secretary, Te Kawa Club, advised that his club preferred that',the match (re-play)' Te Kawa v. Pirongid, in the junior grade, should take-place at Te Kawa.

The Waipa Referees’ Association inquired if the Waipa Union would provide referees Avith sweaters and monograms for use during matches, as is done by the Hamilton Union.—lt Was decided to provide nine monograms. Discussion arose as to seating accommodation at Albert Park, especially in vieAV of big representative matches to come.

Eventually it Avas decided to'provide a 1-oav of seats 60 yards long on each side of No. 1 ground, the job to be completed by July 10th. Messrs Crump and Clarke Avere appointed to have the work done. Intimation Avas received that the folloAving dates had been -- fixed fou. Finlay Cup matches: Morrins'vill"/plays on July 10th, Matamata on July --' 24th, -Putaruru on August With, ' - and Raglan on August 21st. ’A “A > Pukekohe Union asked K for a elate for a rep. match Avith Waipa at Te AAvamu.tu. The date suggested/ July 24th, but in vieAV bf ! the -probai? T bility of a match for the Finlay -Cup 1 Avith Matamata on. that date, no- definite decision could be come to. PUke_ > kohe is .to be advised that if Waipb loses to Morrinsville on July 10th Waipa will be free to play Pukekohe on. the 24th.

(Putaruru applied for August 14th for a rep. match at Te Awamutu.—Ap-* proved. It Avas decided to assemble the Waipa senior reps at 2 p.m. next Saturday week to -be -photographed, each player to receive a cabinet copy. The transfer of W. Culley from thirds (Old Boys) to United juniors was approved. The matter of entertaining the Morrinsville rep. team at Te Awamutu Hotel after the game Avas left in the hands of the president and secretary. The secretary undertook to arrange for progammes fo the -Morrinsville v. Waipa rep. match. . The players in last -Saturday’s replk match, and their selector, were heartdv i'ly congratulated upon the splendid exhibition of football they had given. Mr McCarthy Avanted a practice match for the reps before the Morrinsville contest, but it Avas considered impracticable. It Avas then decided to arrange for an early assembly on the day-’of the game. It Avas decided to issue a special invitation to Mrs W.- Taylor, of- Greenhill, the UnioiTs only lady life member, to attfend the next rep. match. The chairman also stated that the report of the previous Aveek’s meeting. of the Management Committee had omitted to mention that the meeting had decided to remit the balance of the disqualification of W. Beet, and therefore to allow him to play again at once if desired. In fairness to Beet lie thought the fact should he notified.

It Avas -decided to ask Messrs Hasel--den, McNamara and Melrose to make inquiries as to the cost of small grandstand at Albert ParHwV
