TE AWAMUTIPS FORTNIGHTLY

SOCIAL.

VISIT FROM CAMBRIDGE BRETHREN.

The first inter-club vfeit from a neighbouring club to 'the Te Awamutu Orphans’ Club this season eventuated last Saturday evening, when over forts members from Cambridge came- over. There was also a good muster of local members, with Past-president G. T.. Robson in the chair. The visitors were accorded a rousing welcome, and their president (Bro. F. Lye, ex-MP.) and the Mayor of Cambridge (Bro. T. F. Richards) were soon seated beside the chairman. The Te Awamutu Orphans’ Orchestra opened the proceedings With a couple of well-rend-ered selections. Then the rest of the programme was provided by the visitors, as follow:—'Bro Lindsay, songs “The Vagabond” and “The Bachelor”; Bro M. Wilkinson, monologue, “The Three Trees” and recitation “A Bachelor’s Lament”; Bro. W. Weatherell, stories and songs, “The Bassoon” and “Are You Working?”; Bro. T. Boyce, songs (.by request) “I Hear You Calling” and “Keep on Hopin’ ”; Bro. Hampshire, stories and piano selections “Westminster Chimejs”; Bro H. H'auesler, lightning sketches; Bro. Seale, flute solos; Bro. .D. Russo, songs, “O Solo Mio,” “Funiculi, Funicula,” and “Island of ©reams”; Bro. H. W. Smales, monologues, “The Watchman’s Story” and phrases from penny novelettes; Cambridge Orchestra, march; Bro. Alf. B. -Boyce, pianoforte selection, Paderewski’s “Minuet”; Orchestra, selections. The programme was an excellent one, Bros. Russo, Seale and Hauesler in particular coming in for 'loud applause. The latter sketched half-a-dozen cari* catures 1 , using either left or right hand (or both) with equal -facility. After a very appetising supper had been served and done full justice to, the chairman expressed the pleasure of the local club members at such a representative visit of Cambridge brethren, and hoped the pleasant relations existing between the two communities would continue. Bros. Lye and Richards reciprocated the good wishes, and hoped orphandom would continue to progress in Te Awamutu.
