ORGANISING PORK EXPORT
CO-OPERATIVE MARKETING.
The export of pork from New Zealand was discussed at the meeting of the Auckland provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union last week.
A report was made of the decisions of a meeting held in Hamilton recently to consider the exportation of pork. It had been pointed out that in the Manawatu district this was carried on fairly extensively. The scheme in Manawatu was doing very well, it was stated, 9 but it would, improve if the organisation existed throughout New Zealand. It was therefore proposed to export pork from Waikato. 'Mr A N. Macky, who occupied the chair, supported the proposal of the Waikato farmers to link .the bacon exporting scheme with the co-operative dairy companies. This would not unduly hamper the existing bacon interests, hut there was no room for setting up any fresh company. The same view was held by Mr H. M. Rusliworth, who said that dairy farmers had fought to have control of their own interests,, and they should not allow the export of pork to he controlled. by outside stock agents.
Mr R. D. Duxiield instanced the success that had been made of pork exportation to Denmark.
That the export trade should be built up gradually was the vie\y of Mr RH. Feisst, who said the Waikato farmers had gained useful information from the Manawatu scheme. The plan should not be attempted in the North until it had been in operation in the Waikato for about a year.
