NGAROMA SCHOOL PICNIC

SETTLERS SPEND A HAPPY DAY

The Ngaroma School Committee are to lie congratulated on the manner in which they carried out their annual picnic. Arrangements were made with the motor lorry owners of the district to take the children to the Maori Pa at Aotearoa where a large number of people had arrived from the neighbouring districts. After partaking of lunch a very successful sports programme was most enjoyably conducted and afternoon tea was provided for all. , . Mr W. T. Brabyn then presented each child with a school prize, then the prizes won at the sports were awarded. Mr Brabyn, on behalf of the committee, proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to the Maori people for placing their ground at' the disposal of the picnickers and for their help in the many other ways which had assisted to make the picnic a success. Three cheers were then given for the Maori people, the ladies and Mr and Mrs Floyd for acting as handicapper and starter.

Rather a pleasant surprise was sprung on Mr Brabyn, when Mr Goddard,. chairman of the Committee, asked him to accept a small present on behalf of the children as a token of their appreciation of the many kindnesses done them. Mr Brabyn suitably replied. IMuch credit is due to Mr D. G. Millen in arranging and carrying out the programme. During the afternoon the Maori orchestra provided music and one of their number also performed several native dances. . In the evening a dance was held m the Ngaroma Hall, the music being supplied bv the Maori orchestia. Visitors were present from all parts of the district from Te Awamutu to Arapuni. For the succes of the day special ' thanks, are due to IMhssrs Watson and Jamieson, of Korakonui in placing the lorry at the disposal or the committee; also to Messrs G. and H. Nichols and Mr H.
