TE AWAMUTU MUNICIPAL BAND.
Sir,—iMr Robbin is very much in error in his statements appearing in his letter last issue. In the first instance, the bandsmen have had nothing whatever to do with this matter. I was approached personally by the secretary of the Waipa Racing Club, to arrange an orchestra for their meeting on the 12th December. I have at no time been in any way connected with the Te Awamutu Band, much less with its winding up. In reference to instruments, I might state for Mr Robbin’s benefit that each player owns his own instrument and equipment. Therefore, it is not necessary for any instruments to be borrowed from the Borough Council. I know of at least eleven brass instruments privately owned in Te Awamutu. Although some of the players I have secured for this engagement were at one time of the band, they were also my colleagues professionally for the past six years. Mr Editor, I certainly think that if Mr Robbin would offer a little more constructive criticism it would materially help matters musically m this town. —I am, etc., JAMES COCKER, Violinist. p.s.— In reference to charges, this is a matter between the Racing Club and myself.
