THE KAIKORAI TRAGEDY

MRS HART IN COURT CHARGED WITH MURDER (By Telegraph. Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. Ellen Hart appeared before the Police Court to-day, forma’ly charged with the murder of Lindsay Hart on November 9. She was remanded to appear on Thursday, when the case will proceed. During the brief period of the proceerings this iporning accused sat huddled in the corner of the dock, with her head buried in her hands, apparently almost in a state of collapse. She had practically to be carried from the Court by the police matron and Ensign Coombs. The tragedy leading up to the charge of murder against Mrs Hart took place at a house in New Brighton St., Kaikorai, one of the suburbs of Dunedin, occupied by Mr and Mrs Hart and their four children. On the morning of November 9, a neighbour, aroused by a stone thrown on her roof, was called by Mrs Hart who said: “I have killed my kids. I loved those lads.” The neighbour found lying on a mat in Mrs Hart’s kitchen the bodies of the two boys, and in a perambulator was the body of an infant. All were dead, their 'throats having been cut. There were some superficial cuts on Mrs Hart’s own throat, and it was surmised that she had made an attempt on her own life, but her wounds were slight.
