TE AWAMUTU MUNICIPAL BAND.
Sir. —'Having read of our local band's disbandment owing to want of public support, and Mr Warburton s letter re bandsmen and professionalism, I am beginning to think there was some truth in that letter, as I hear that at least four of the bandsmen are arranging for a string band of about eight players (with two cornets and a bass) to play at the Waipa races. Now, at least two of these instruments will have to be borrowed, probably from the Te Awamutu Borough Council, and the intending players propose to make a charge of eight guineas on the racing club; and these men, I have discovered, used to get only ten shillings each when they played as members of the Te Awamutu Muncipal Band. Now, does not this fact show that they (or some of them) are wanting more money for playing? I have investigated further and find that the very ones who are running this string band are the ones 'who agitated to close down the Muncipal Band. —I am, etc., R. BOBBIN. Te Awamutu, 23rd November, 1925.
