TE RORE NOTES

SUCCESSFUL CONCERT AND DANCE. (Own Correspondent.) A very successful concert and dance was held in the school last Friday evening. Mr W. Alcock presided, and explained that the object was to raise funds to defray expenses in connection with the installation of electric light in the school. The building was taxed to its utmost, many persons having to stand during the concert, but even these forgot tlie : ir inconvenience when the programme was started with a humorous chorus, “ Razors in the Air,” by the Godfrey brothers and Mr E. James, followed by a solo from Mr A. Ramsay, a recitation, “ Royal Romance,” Miss M. Hodgson; violin solo, “Air Farie,” Miss Enid Aislabie; duet, Messrs Godfrey Bros.; song, Miss A. Bell, recitation, Mr Hardie; song, Mrs Prince; violin duet, “lA Maori Chant,” Misses Enid and Alice Aislabie; song, Miss Wallace; duet, Mr and Mrs Hardie; song, Mr E. H. James; recitation, Mr W. 'Godfrey; musical item, Mr and Mrs Aislabie and the Misses Aislabie; duet, Misses Steel and Bell; song, Mr Ramsay; and song, Miss A. Bell. The programme, which was, in fact, duplicated owing to encores, was concluded with a chorus song by Mr James and Miss Bell. Mrs W. H. Bell and Mrs Ramsay accompanied the singers, and Mr R. Steel supplied the dance music. The evening was a most enjoyable one, and the chairman thanked all those who had helped to make it a success. Another item of interest in the district is the formation of a croquet club by the ladies, which should prove the means of many enjoyable after-

noons. Mrs W. Allcock has kindly placed her-lawn at the disposal of the club, and considerable difficlty in beginning has been overcome by the ladies of the Te Awamutu Croquet Club very kindly teaching members of the local club the art of playing croquet, and they are very sincerely thanked for the friendly spirit displayed. The committee of the new club are: Mesdames Allcock, Lorimer, and James (honorary secretary and treasurer). Another innovation to this district is the erection of a Government party line of telephones into the Pirongia end of the district, linking the following settlers’ residences: Messrs H. Hart, J. Livnigstone, S. Sifleet, J. Butterworth. G. Lorimer, E. Wilson, and J. Munro. Subscribers are advised not to ring the exchange too often., as there is no through connection at present, though everyone is hoping for a speedy completion o.f the line.
