WAIKATO LICENSING POLL.

THREE YEARS AGO AND NOW. MAJORITY FOR CONTINUANCE INCREASED. The poll on the licensing question must have proved a disappointment for the advocates of prohibition. Whereas three years ago there was a clear majority in favour of prohibition over the combined votes recorded for State control and continuance, there was yesterday a minority in Waikato supporting the withdrawal of licenses. The total votes recorded (exclusive of absent voters’ permits) were as follow: Continuance 2752 State Control 655 . Prohibition 3188 Maj. ag. Prohibition.. 219

Continuance. State Control Prohibition.

There were 46 informal votes, and there are about 400 absent voters’ permits to come to hand.
