BARBERS AND CUSTOMERS
MUST 'STUDY FACES. . A barber cuts a customer's hair by the cut of his face! Before the cropping begins he takes a quick look at the face, from which, he can at once see on what lines to set to work. That the face should be the guide, however, is really quite reasonable. People nearly always wear their hair as it best suits their faces. Occasionally a barber may have a customer who wears his hair in the very worst possible way. IHe may* wear it short when it ought to be long, or long when it ought to be short. In such cases the barber usually has no option. He must cut the hair according to the customer's own wishes. A man will sometimes tell the barber just how he wants his hair cut so that he may look his best. Well, that customer goes out perfectly satisfied —but in nine times out of ten the barber has not followed instructions.
Mothers with small children will often give the most detailed instructions for the trimming of curls, instructions that could not possibly be followed. But by listening to them the barber can tell what really is wanted, and then do it his own way.
