CABLE DUPLICATION

CANADA TO FIJI

(By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Government has received advice that tenders have been accepted for duplication of the Pacific cable from Canada to Fiji by September next year. The Fanning island section will be laid by the Telegraph Construction and Maintenance Company, and Fanning Island to Fiji by the Siemens Company. Owing to the greater price of metals the cost is expected to be nearly a million more than that of the original cable, but the board has over two millions in hand.
