WAIPA RUGBY UNION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.

VARIOUS MATTERS DEALT WITH.

The Management Committee of the Waipa .Rugby Union met on Tuesday evening, Mr F. Quin presiding. Also present were Rev. White .and Messrs G. B. Melrose, G. Reynolds, W. McCarthy, G. H. Mairs, S. H. Dwen, G. S. Clarke, W. H. Bell and E. T. Crump (hon. secretary),.

Apology for absence was received from Mr Hogan, Ohaupo’s delegate. Mr A. A. Reese was appointed treasurer.

Acknowledgment of the appointment as officials of the Union were received from Messrs F. Lye (patron) and W. T. Brabyn (vice-president). An invitation to take part in a seven-a-side tournament at Arapuni on Saturday, 9th May, was received from the Arapuni Club secretary. -Application for affiliation as a senior dub was received from Te Kawa.— Accepted. Requests for a portion of the N.Z. Rugby Union grant of £5 weer received from Te Rore and Pokuru schoolmasters for the purchase of a football. — It was decided to contribute 10s to each school.

Accounts totalling £27 16s were passed for payment. The Pirongia Club secretary lodged a protest against Puahue thirds being declared victors over Pirongia last Saturday, contending that one of the Puahue players, Bravo, was over weight. Mr J. F. Roberts, on behalf of the High School team, attended by invitation to explain the protest in connection with the High School v. Methodist third grade match played last Saturday. The grounds of the protest were that three of the Methodists were over weight. Rev. White explained that the team had been weighed on the Saturday, just prior to the match, and three of them were slightly over lOst. Mr Mairs said he had previously asked for a ruling and the president had told him the limit was lOst 71b. On the day of the match he had also asked Mr Crump, Who replied that the weight so far as hd remembered was lOst 51b. On that assurance the boys were played. No delegate had a copy of the rules with him. Mr Quin said he had no recollection of stating what Mr Mairs had asserted.

Mr Crump acknowledged saying he believed the limit was 10.5. That was made in the presence of Rev. White, one of the sub-committee compiling the rules. Surely if anyone knew it was Rev. White.

Messrs Dwen and McCarthy said the third grade administration was bristling with difficulties. It would be well to go cautiously. Mr Melrose moved that the High School v. Methodist match be re-play-ed.

1 Mr Clarke seconded, saying that had there been no misunderstanding between officials he would have pressed for a forfeit to High School. After a good deal of discussion it was decided to replay the Methodist v. High School match. < Mr Melrose reported Merino, a Parawera junior, for a misdemeanour in the junior match Parawera v. Methodists last Saturday.—Action confirmed, and the player named is to be cautioned.

T. Ferguson applied for a transfer from the Rovers to Ohaupo clubs. Mr Mairs moved that all third grade players must be officially weighed before taking the field again.—Seconded by Mr McCarthy.—Agreed to, Mr Clarke to be the official weigher. Application was made by Rovers Club to regrade to . junior's G. Black, C. Old, T. Hall and R. Patterson. — Decided that each man must appear before the Union before their individual case is considered.

Mr Dwen asked that the Borough Council be approached to light up No. 1 ground for practice at night time.— Messrs Dwen and Melrose were deputed to wait on the Council and .state the case.
