KAWA DRAINAGE BOARD

MEETING OF MEMBERS,

A meeting of the Kawa Drainage Board was held at the Board’s office, Te Kawa, on Thursday morning last. Present, Messrs Broadbent (chairman), Coverdale, Henderson and McLean. The chairman reported that a deputation consisting of himself and Mr McLean had waited on the Minister of Lands with reference to the matter of water coming into the Board’s area from outside drains. Mr F. Lye, M.P., forwarded a letter from the Minister of Lands stating that it did not appear possible for anything to be done unless the Board again petitions for the inclusion of the affected area that is at present outside the Board’s area. It was finally decided that the Board petition the Minister of Internal Affairs to have the outside areas included in the Board’s area and, before completing the petition, the Board will inspect the area to ensure that no area is admitted, the matter of he inspection to be lfe in the chairman's hands. The clerk reported having made further demands for payment of outstanding .accounts for drainage work, and it was resolved that the Board’s solicitOrS be instructed to apply for paym'ent\of all amounts due‘by Maoris, including rates, and by two pakehas. It was further decided that the clerk advise Mrs Corlett that after consideration the Board is unable to make any alteration in its charge for work done and some arrangements for payment must be made or the Board will have to take legal proceedings to recover. It was arranged that the Chairman and Mr Henderson make the necessary arrangements with the engineer for the cleaning of outlet drains to Stewart’s property and also to Bethel’s property. After full consideration it was decid-

ed that, in consequence of a reduction of valuations, the 1924-25 special rates, amounting to £26 4s 6d charged to the Kakepuku Lands Co. in respect of , valuations No. 34 and 189, be written off. Accounts totalling £245 2s 4d were passed for payment.
