METHODIST CHURCH

HARVEST FESTIVAL SERVICES. On Sunday last the local Methodist Church celebrated its anniversary and harvest festival. The church was suitably decorated for the occasion, numerous gifts of fruit and vegetables being displayed in front of the choir platform. A feature of the celebrations was the special singing by the choir. At the morning service a duet. ‘0 Thou that Hearest Prayer.’ from the cantata ‘The Rolling Seasons,’ was sung by Mrs Coleman and Miss Smith. In the evening a .record congregation attended and was amply rewarded by the choir’s singing of three excerpts from cantata ‘The Haymakers,’ choruses, ‘Away to the Meadows,’ and ‘To Him Who Made Us,’ and the duet ‘Sweet Morn, how Lovely is Thy Face,’ sung by Mrs Metcalfe and Mrs Howan. The anthem, ‘Praise the Lord, 0 Jerusalem,’ and a solo by Mrs Coleman, ‘The Harvesters’ Night Song,’ completed an enjoyable effort of those responsible for the musical portion of the festival. On Monday evening the fruit and produce was auctioned by Mr Mizen, a large attendance of church members and friends being in evidence. As a result of the harvest festival effort. the Methodist Church circuit fund will benefit considerably.
