Those who will want their premises reticulated for power and light under the Waitomo scheme must have the work done by the Board should they require finance for same from the Board. v

A general meeting of the Otorohanga Sports Club will be held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening next when arrangements will be made for the annual Easter Monday gathering. Mr J. Liddy has undertaken the secretaryship. I understand that Miss Patterson’s transfer from Otorohanga District High School to Paeroa has been cancelled and that she will remain here, the average attendance at our district high school being expected to reacn at least 40 during the coming year. The registration of a motor vehicle does not obviate the payment for a driver’s license. These drivers’ licenses are obtainable from the local body and must be taken out before Ist April. Applicants who have had no past experience may have to undergo a test as to their ability to drive with safety both to themselves and the public. Four large stacks of splendid oats is the harvest off Mr J. Belcher’s 20 acres just outside the township. The crop has been well harvested and the stacks well and thoroughly built. In the year ending 31st December last there were 27 motor cars, 15 lorries and 2 motor cyc.es registered by the Otorohanga County Council. Fifteen of these were for commercial purposes. I had the pleasure of seeing a splendid crop of lucerne at Mr Anso’s property at Te Kawa. There are 40 acres and the fact of Its being grown on virgin land does away with the theory that land must be specially prepared for such a crop. The area mentioned is calculated to carry one row to the acre and this speaks well for what was a year or two ago looked upon as a useless swamp or slough of despond. However, there is no despondency *on the part of the owner or his sons. It has been decided to appoint a second pianist for the Town Hall picture performances. This means returning to the same position as existed up to 12 months ago. The new appointee will presumably' take the Tuesday night performances as well as extra performance nights. The Town Board has decided to repair and generally put in order Haerehuka and Ranfurly Streets as well as other of our local highways. This should mean that a large proportion of the town’s noxious weed growth will be eradicated.

The forming of an Otorohanga Fire Brigade is now in training and Messrs C. Phillips and C. R. 'Baylor have been appointed superintendent and deputy superintendent respectively. There is a list of sixteen who have notified their willingness to join the brigade and the officials above mentioned will select the required number It has been decided to affiliate with the United Fire Brigades’ Association. It may be mentioned that the two superintendents are men with long service records in the fire and water line and most of the others offering have also had experience,, as fire brigadesmen.
