SERIOUS ALLEGATION

MAORI YOUTH CHARGED. , (By Telegraph. Press Association.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. A Maori youth of 15 years of age was charged at Hamilton to-day with having at Whatawhata unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under, the age of 16. Senior-Sergeant Matthew, who prosecuted, said that the case could not be proceeded with as the principal witness, the girl, could not be found. Owing to the fact that he came from a district 30 miles back from Kihikihi it was considered • advisable to hear the evidence of a Maori missioner, who stated that even now the girl against whom the offence was alleged to have been committed was only 12J, years old. The case was adjourned until January 14th.
