M. Herriot, the French Prime Minister, during his last visit to London, found some relief by prowling round the second-hand shops, for he is an indefatigable collector. In a shop in Conduit Street he came across the original indictment of Charlotte Corday. The document curiously enough, clears up a disputable point. According to Charlotte's biographer, the Norman Judith, after the murder, passed the night in Marat's house owing to fears being entertained of the fury of the populace, but the document makes it clear that she was transferred to the prison of L'Abbaye on the day of the crime. M. Herriot has presented the document to the Ministry of Fine Arts.
