OLD TIMES.
Sir, —At the opening of the Te Awamutu butter factory this week, Mr Sinclair in referring to the old pioneers round Te Awamutu, left unmentioned the names of many who deserved just a word of remembrance. Some were members of the old Forest Rangers, others of the Te Awamutu Cavalry; their last call, nearly 30 years ago, if not more, was to rescue Mr Hursthouse, a surveyor, whom the Maoris had captured and tied up in the fern beyond Pirongia. The following names are worthy of mention, the majority having passed over and only a few remain to tell the tale: — Majors Jackson and Northcroft, Captain Rockett and Andrew Kay, A. Henderson, Cowan, Corboy, Cunningham brothers, C, J. Storey, J. Gifford, W. Johns, Hugh and John Goodfellow, W, Taylor, W. and J. Rutherford, G. M. Abler, Bertram, John and Robert Roach, J. G. Berry, J. Weal and W. Bond.—-I am, etc., ONE OF THE CROWD,
