FOOTBALLERS OF YORE.

Sir, —I was ,one of those folk who attended the very pleasant little concert in connection with the Rugby Union’s presentation of trophies last Wednesday evening in the Town Hall, and while appreciating the items by the other contributors I was much impressed with the recitations given by the Pirongia youth, Master Grace. What a great memory he has. I 1 do hope that he will be able to get some tuition under an experienced .elocutionist, not only in elocution itself, but in stage craft. The young fellow has great possibilities as a raconteur. Of course his contributions were topical, and in this connection I understand they were written by the boy’s father. If this is' so, may I suggest that Mr Grace commit them to paper, and you, sir, publish them in the Waipa Post for the benefit of the younger generation. The references to the players of ten, twenty and even thirty years ago were delightful hearing to many old has-beens in the community, and the pity is that there were not more present on Wednesday evening to hear the recitation. The author of the poem, or eulogy in verse, need not hesitate for fear of pirates using it, for it. requires one with a very fine memory to present it, and there are so few of these nowadays. Apologising for trespassing on your space.—l am, etc., T.J.
