ARAPUNI MAILS.
POST AND TELEPHONIC OFFICE «p_ TO BE OPENED AT ONCE. Much has been written and said of late respecting the mail services between Te Awamutu and Arapuni, and in our last issue, in which we set out the position fully and clearly, it was pointed out that though telegraphic representations had been made by the Mayor and Chamber of Commerce direct to the Minister, a week had elapsed without a reply being received. On Tuesday evening, however, the Postmaster General telegraphed as follows: "I have just authorised opening of post and telephonic office at Arapuni, thus completing the mail service from Te Awamutu. The office will probably be opened in a few days. —(Signed), J. G. Coates, Wellington."
This very definite pronouncement is very welcome to those who have worked so hard to obtain a service that will at once establish Te Awamutu as the most convenient point on the railway and give the workers and settlers at Arapuni and en route opportunity to communicate with other parts of the Dominion with a minimum of delay.
POSTMASTER APPOINTED.
Rather more detail is given in a telegram from the Postmaster General to Mr F. Lye, M.P. for Waikato, who has forwarded a copy to the Mayor. The message received by Mr Lye reads: "Re Te Awamutu-Arapuni mail service. The delay in commencing this service was caused by the necessityfor opening a post and telephone office at Arapuni, which is now being arranged. The office will be under the control of Mr F. J. Treanor, of the Public Works Department, and immediately on its establishment mails from Te Awamutu will be delivered direct into Arapuni."
