THE NEWTON BURGLARY.

PATRICK GUNN APPEARS. REMANDED ON HEAVY BAIL. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Friday. Patrick Gunn, 29, who was arrested in Newton yesterday morning by Detective Sergeant Issell, appealed in the Police Court this morning, when he was charged with breaking and entering Mr C. F. Norton's jewellery establishment in Karangahape Road, and stealing about 67 rings, of a total value of £603 15s. Senior Detective Hammond asked that Gunn be remanded until January 18. Counsel for accused asked that bail be allowed. He could report to the police when required. Senior Detective Hammond: It does not matter so much about the reporting. If bail is granted I would ask for substantial bail.

The magistrate admitted accused to bail in the sum of £650.
