DEMAND FOR FRUIT.
SOUTH AMERICAN MARKET
<By Telegraph—Press Association)
WELLINGTON, This Day.
The New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation has completed arrangements for the sale of 50,000 cases of apples to South American firms at prices regarded as very satisfactory to growers. Consignments are to go to the three principal ports—Buenos Aires, Monte Video and Rio de Janiero. This is the largest order of the kind recorded in New Zealand, and though the quantity mentioned may be as much as the South American market can absorb at present, it is considered that enlarged orders are possible in the not distant future, as the means of distribution are extended. This market is specially advantageous in that it requires mostly large red varieties which are not required in England. The South American and English markets are thus complementary. Shipments will commence early in March and continue till the end of May.
