ROUND THE WORLD.
MAN AND WIFE ON FIVE YEARS’ JOURNEY.
A journey around the world on foot is being undertaken by Mr Leo Roux, a tramway car conductor of Kimberley, and his wife, a school mistress (reports the Capetown correspondent of the Daily Mail). They are accompanied by two dogs, and they carry their belongings in a wheelbarrow.
They have successfully completed the first stage of their long trek, having reached Capetown from Johannesburg. their starting point. They followed a roundabout route of 173 S miles, which they covered in seven months and a half, but rains cut the walking time down to four months.
They will sail from Capetown to India, where they will visit most of the big cities, and will take ship from Calcutta to Perth, West Australia. They propose to walk around the coast to Sydney, where they will embark to Tasmania, and then cross the Pacific to San Francisco. Thence they intend to cross the States to New York, next proceeding to Liverpool, and to London and the south coast.
Reaching the Continent they propose to walk through France, Greece,
Turkey and Palestine to Egypt. The final stage will be from Cairo down the banks of the Nile to Rhodesia and then on to the Rand.
The travellers, who live by giving lectures and selling postcards, are writing a book describing their journey, which they hope to complete in five years.
