The Public Works Department is claiming half the timber in the old Newman bridge, on the ground (says the Express) that it is subsidising the new bridge £ for £. The chairman at the meeting of the Bketahuna County Council, said no objection would be taken if the Department stood half the cost of dismantling. Mr N. E. Whisker, of the stationmaster's office.. Palmerston North, has received notice of transfer to Frankton. Mr Whisker is also secretary of the Manawatu branch of Railway Officers' Institute. The vacancy will be filled by Mr F C. G. House, at present stationmaster ->t Waitara. transfers will take plac j at an early date.
