OHAUPO EN FETE.

NEW MEMORIAL HALL. OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY. Ohaupo was en fete yesterday, the occasion being the official opening of the War Memorial Town Hall. * There was a goodly number of* residents present from town and district, the official ceremony being performed by Mr F. Lye, M.P. for Waikato, Mr J. A. Young, M.P. for Hamilton, was also present. Mr E. J. Edwards, chairman of the Ohaupo Town Board, received the visitors, and presided over the proceedings. Mr Lye, having declared the building open, made a very appropriate and' impressive address. He was followed by Messrs Young and D. S. Reid (chairman of the Waipa County Council). Mr L. G. Armstrong (the Mayor of Te Awamutu) also spoke briefly in a congratulatory strain. The deed of gift of the ground on which the hall has been erected was then presented to the chairman by the donor (Mrs Turnwald). Afternoon tea was then partaken of in the supper room, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. The building is a substantially built concrete one, and the ladies' committee has furnished it most tastefully. The hall has been designed to seat 500 people, and there is a commodious stage on Avhich, no doubt, musical and dramatic performances will be given in the future to the delectation of the public. The hall has been built by loan, the money having been obtained through the instrumentality of Mr J. A. Young, M.P., and occasion was taken to thank him for his services in the matter. The people of Ohaupo are to be congratulated on the result of their efforts in erecting such a utilitarian memorial to their heroes of t!he war. In the evening a very successful ball was held, dancers being present from all parts, including a goodly number from Hamilton and Te Awamutu. Dancing was kept up merrily until the early hours of this morning, the whole occasion being a most noteworthy one, every possible detail for the enjoyment of patrons having been attended to.
