WORK IN THE BOROUGH.
REVIEW FOR PAST FORTNIGHT. FOREMAN'S REPORT. Mr J. Archer (foreman) reported as follows to last night's meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council: Since last mieeting the following works have been attended to: Usual cleaning of the main streets and the water tables; repairs have been carried out with li-inch metal on Ohaupo Road, Mutu Street, and junction of Alexandra and Tawhiao Streets; also in Alexandra Street with Union asphalt and chips on some of the bad places showing signs of the carpeting lifting. The water table in Roche St. from Herbert Street towards Brady Street has been cleaned. One of the concrete posts has been placed in position and the V gate altered at the Domain, but owing to the wet weather I have not been able to put the other post in, but will do so at the first opportunity. Water services have been placed for the following and meters fixed: Messrs Alexander and Wallis, Hairini Road. Mr Quin, Pirongia Road. The hydrant in Mutu Street has been repaired. The firewood from the trees at Mr McGovern's has been carted in at various times; also the following timber has been carted from the saw mill to the yard and stacked under the boarding house: Bluegum from Mr A. Bygrave's paddock, 3/7, 118/9, 27/9 6in, 3/11, 6in x 2in, 25/9, 4in x 2in,' totalling 1712 sup. feet. There are still two trees to face and cut up. Some time ago I reported to the Council that two public urinals in the town had the water for flushing connected directly on to the water main, which is contrary to by-law. I have personally drawn the attention of the owners to this, but nothing has been done, and I would recommend that the town clerk now send them notice to do the work within seven days, otherwise water be cut off. Regarding the culvert in front of the garage (Spear and Fawcett's), this work has not been done, and unless same is carried out in seven days that I be authorised to take the culvert up. Complaints have been made to me re the piece of hedge overhanging the footpath at the corner of Roche Stret and Herbert Stret, on the school property. I would recommend that a notice be sent the school committee to cut same back; it certainly is bad, especially in wet weather The drain through Messrs Mandeno's paddock at bottom of Carlton Street has ben opened, and I have thoroughly cleaned the pipes leading into same. Private drain connections have been tested for the following: Mr Cox, corner Bank and Herbert Streets; Electric Power Board offices, Mutu Stret; Mr McArthur, Mutu St.; the alloaction of cost of labour and materials is as follows: Streets: Labour £lO lis lOd. Union asphalt 16s Bd, IA-inch metal £3 12s; Domain: Labour £2 Ss lOd. water £2 ss, sale yards £1 15s Sd. The sale yards have been cleaned, including the pig pens; also repaired, except the drop door on the pig landing, which seems to be not required.
