TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. GENERAL BUSINESS DEALT WITH. The ordinary general meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council was on Monday evening, the Mayor (?■ L. G. Armstrong) presiding. Tflere were also present: Crs G. Spinley. C. G. Downes. B. McGechie, J. W. MlcCarroll, J. C. Montefiore. W. U'. North. P. W. Peate. and C. Bygrave. Cr Downes explained the finance committee's recommendations re the applications for assistance, by way of deferred payments, in the installation of sewerage as required by the borough by-laws. All the applications would be granted. The applicants would, of course, have to give satisfactory securities as to re-payment. Interest on the money deferred would have to be paid. Members discussed the recommendations, and decided that they were equitable. They were., accordingly', adopted unanimously. Cr Montefiore desired to place on record appreciation of Cr Downes' special work in presenting such a comprehensive and lucid statement of the whole position.—Agreed to. The works committee recommended that rat holes in the footpaths be filled in by the borough workmen, and that any faults in the footpaths of a like nature that occur in future be referred to the landowners of properties adjoining for immediate attention. —Approved. The matter of purchasing supplies of cinders from the dairy company's factory near the station was deferred, it being pointed out that supplies of cinders were not required at present. The clerk reported that no tenders were received for the grazing of the Park Road reserve for a year. At present the Borough Council's horses were being paddocked there nightly, and for this the Domain Board would be credited £2O per annum. Mr E. F. Scott, representing the sewerage scheme engineers, wrote that the Railway Department proposed laying a line of sewer along the back of the railway cottages and connecting to the man-hole in Mr Teasdale's property. No proposal could be made re the railway station, as the matter was in abeyance owing to the proposed removal of the railway buildings.—Received. The Morrinsville town clerk advised that the deputy-Mayor (Mr J. B. Thomas) had been nominated /for Itbef extraordinary vacancy on the Waikato Hospital Board, and asking if Te Awamutu approved that the Council advise Cambridge Borough Council to this effect. It was explained that the Council considers both gentlemen nominated were very suitable to fill the vacancy, and Morrinsville and Cambridge Borough Councils would be advised to that effect. Mrs Wm. Taylor, of " ireen Kill," wrote acknowledging the Council's ter of sympathy with her and her family in their recent bereavement. Mr and Mrs D. S. Reid also wrote acknowledging a similar resolution] respecting their recent bereavement. The commissioner of the State Insurance Department wrote re the pro- , posed loan of £ISOO for fire brigade purposes, and stated that the Board was prepared to advance the £ISOO for a term of years at G per cent, plus a sinking fund of 1 per cent.—lt was decided "to accept the offer, provided authority is obtained from the Minister to pay the extra rate of interest. Cr McGechie considered the request a very reasonable one, and it was unanimously decided to comply with it. The three auctioneering firms using the municipal sale yards complained of the dirty state of the pig pens, and asked the Council to arrange for them to be cleaned. —The foreman stated that he had had the pens cleaned. Mr H. J. Reid, late assistant to Colonel Crompton, engineer to the British Road Board, wrote from Ham- > ilton offering to supervise the Borough Council's streets improvement scheme. —It was decided to reply that the Council had already made 'iarraflfjements for supervision. Messrs Toogood and Jones, engineers for the sewerage scheme, forwarded information bearing on the sewerage by-laws, in which they said they now had received the Department of Health's approval of proposals regarding inspection eyes.—Received. The secretary of the Fire Brigade applied for £2 18s 4d. being half the telephone fee to 30th April. 1924. Agreed to. ' Mr A. J. Westbury applied for a right-of-way across the drain in Park Road to give access to his property.— Agreed to.
