"IN DUE COURSE."

TE AWAMUTU'S NEW RAILWAY STATION. At the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday evening, the secretary read a letter from the Minister for Railways to the M.P. for the district, in reply to the Chamber's inquiry for some definite statement as to his Department's intentions respecting the proposed enlargement of the Te Awamutu railway station and consequent deviation of the railway line. The Minister replied:— "To Mr F. Lye, M.P.—I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of August 15th, forwarding one you have received from the secretary of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce with reference to the question of providing a new railway station and arrangement of yard at Te Awamutu. In reply, I have to inform .you that I am having inquiries made in connection with the matter, and shall write to you again at a later date. — Yours faithfully, J. G. Coates." Members' were scathing in their criticism of the evasive reply and of the Department's delay in taking the action promised four years ago. when it was stated the work was on the "urgent" list. The secretary stated that industries in the town were being hampered, for prospective settlers wanted to know just what land near the railway station was available before they would be justified in launching a building scheme. He knew one business man from another town who was seeking this information with a view to establishing an industry here that would employ considerable labour. Was it fair that Morrinsville's new railway station —which was on the same 1919 " urgent" list—was being proceeded with, and Te Awamutu needs ignored? Mr McVilly had produced a very elaborate large scale map of the'proposed alterations last November, but nothing had transpired since. ™ It was unanimously decided to make further representations to the Minister and General Manager of Railways.
