A PAINFUL ACCIDENT.
MAN'S LEG BADLY CRUSHED. (Bv Telegraph. Preys Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Andrew Hunter, aged 37, a married man, was the victim of a distressing accident yesterday, whereby he had his left leg badly crushed in a concrete mixer. He was working in Chote's yard, Farish Street, and was cleaning the machine before going home. Hunter slipped, and his leg was caught in the mechanism. Fortunately this interference with the free action of the machine caused the engine to stop, otherwise the man would have been badly mangled. His cries attracted attention, but Hunter could not be extricated until the engineer cut a portion of the machine away with oxy-acetylene flame. An ambulance and a doctor were promptly on the scene, and the man was removed to the hospital.' His sufferings during the half hour the leg was imprisoned were excruciating, but he showed remarkable fortitude.
