HAMILTON (13) v. WAIPA (0). The return match between Waipa and Hamilton reps was played on Steele Park, Hamilton, on Saturday, in fair but windy weather. Owing to the lateness of the season Waipa fielded what appeared to be a weak team, hut on the run of the play every man justified his inclusion in the team and put up a good showing. Hamilton's win was mainly due to the combination of their backs, while the forwards were evenly matched. The first quarter was evenly contested, but no score resulted, though both sides missed several chances through .overeagerness. In the second quarter Hamilton scored two tries. The first was the result of a good piece of play by Magner, who picked up the hall smartly and made a good opening for Bishop to score unopposed between the posts, Gibson converting. The second try came just on half time. Wylie secured and sent the backs away with a passing bout, transferring to Bishop, to Kemp, to Bayly, the latter scoring between the posts for Gibson to convert, the spell ending Hamilton 10, Waipa o. ' The second half was evenly contested throughout and was characterised by give and take play. From a scrum Noble intercepted a pass and made a strong run for the line where he passed infield, but the referee ruled a forward pass and a sure try was stopped. Hamilton's third try was secured a few minutes before the call of time as the result of a passing movement between Williams, Kemp, Gibson and Bayly, which terminated in the latter scoring, but failed to convert, the game ending with the scores Hamilton 13 Waipa 0 IV] r Dun ford refer eed. Every man in the Waipa team played up to form and it is unfair to individualise the players, although the following up of Macky in the forwards and the tackling of Hamilton in the backs are worthy of special mention. McHardy received an injury in the second half and had to retire. .At the dinner in the evening Mr Cliff (Hamilton) complimented the teams on the spirit in which the game was played and said although Waipa were beaten they were not disgraced as they had fought the issue out to the finish and it was only bad luck which prevented them from scoring. Mr F. Quin, in reply, complimented the Hamilton team on their win and also the referee on the impartial manner in which he had given his rulings. He briefly outlined the difficulties of his Union in getting a team together for the match owing to the lateness of the season and also to the fact that some players had to come long distances for a game. Mr Quin concluded by thanking the Hamilton Union for the manner in which they had entertained the teams. WAIPA v. MANIAPOTO.
