A 'letter was received from the Auckland Rugby Union drawing attention to that Union’s efforts in raising funds as a benefit to an old and respected footballer —“Bob” White-side-who was one of the heroes of old times. Owing to ill-health Mr Whiteside was unable to follow his usual occupation and therefore all Unions were being circularised for donations towards the fund. —Received. With regard to sending a Senior rep. team to Otorohanga on 15th September to play a return match with Maniapoto, it was decided that failing being able to raise a Senior team a Junior team would be sent in its place. With regard to the Insurance Cup match which had been arranged between Te Awamutu and Rovers it was reported that the Te Awamutu Club refused to play Rovers as they considered they were not eligible to compete. It was pointed out during a discussion that the match had been fixed by the Union and it was not for a Club to say whether a team was eligible or otherwise. It was finally resolved that the secretary write the Te Awamutu Club ;: king for an explanation of their action. WAIPA v. HAMILTON. HAWKE’S BAY DEFEAT N.S.W. NAPIER, This Day. The display of the,New South Wales team against the combined Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay and East Coast team here yesterday was most disappointing, the visitors being defeated by 32 points to 15. On account of the creditable performance of the Hawke’s Bay team this season greater interest than usual centred on the match, but such an easy victory was hardly contemplated.
