VALEDICTORY AT POKURU.
1 .MR AND MRS WILKINSON FAREWELLED. Notwithstanding the bad roads a large and representative gathering of settlers and friends assembled at the schoolhouse at Pokuru on Tuesday evening to do honour to and bid farewell to Mr and Mrs L. R. Wilkinson, who are leaving the district. Thanks to the efforts of an energetic committee. the floor was in excellent order for dancing, and the tinge of frost in the air made dancing very enjoyable. As usual, the ladies provided a very dainty supper, which was greatly appreciated by all. After supper, Mr E. H. Crawford, in bidding farewell to Air and Mrs Wilkinson, asked them to accept two handsome suit cases as a mark of esteem and respect. In doing so he expressed the regret of all the subscribers that the guests of the evening were leaving the district. He wished them continued prosperity wherever their future life might lie, and assured ' them that they would always find a warm welcome if they returned to Pokuru. Mr Wilkinson on rising to respond, was greeted with cheers and the singing of “ They are Jolly Good Fellows.” In a few feeling, remarks Mr Wilkinson thanked all for the kindly feelings expressed, and stated that he .ml his wife would always value such lne presents as had been given them that evening. Vocal items were contributed by Mr G. Strong and Mr W. Lang, who proved hosts' in themselves. The duties of master of ceremonies were ably carried out by Mr Crawford, who was untiring in his efforts to ensure the enjoyment of all. Che singing of “ Auld Lang Syne ” in the early hours of the morning brought to a close a very enjoyable function.
