POPPY DAY.

FLOWERS FROM FRANCE. This year's shipment of poppies, ordered by the Returned Soldiers' Association from France for Poppy Day, arrived in New Zealand by the Makura. The order comprised 250,000 small poppies and 30,000 large ones. The headquarters of the Association has announced that the proceeds will be deveoted toward the rehef of unemployment among returned soldiers on the same lines as last year; and in addition £IOO is to be given to the New Zealand War Veterans' Home; but presumably the allocation is at the discretion of the various centres. It is interesting to note that the poppies are made by the widows and children in the devastated areas in France, who receive payment at the rate of 2d for each small poppy and 9d for each large one.
