OTOROHANGA NOTES.

A BUDGET OF NEWS ITEMS. (Resident Representative.) It is understood that the contract for the erection of the Bank of New Zealand building (in concrete) has been secured by Mr C. W. Cooper, of Jfamilton East. The work is to be completed in six months after signature of the contract. A meeting of the members of .the Otorohanga Gun Club will be held on Saturday evening at the Commercial Htotel, .when arrangements for a special t'hoot will-be made. Farmers' Advisory Committee.

A meeting of supporters (shareholders as well as non-shareholders) of the Otorohanga branch of the Farmers' Union Trading Co. was held yesterday afternoon there being an attendance of some 20 people.

Mr B. Budden was voted to the chair and the meeting was addressed by Messrs R. Duxfield (director) ana R. L. Price (sales manager), both of whom explained the new system of management proposed, in regard to local branches. In each district a shareholders' committee was to be set up to undertake and supervise the efficient conduct of the branch's affairs. It was thought that this would tend to assist the interests of the district and co-operation generally. The meeting eventually elected Messrs Budden, Oudaille, R. Hill, H. A. Lurman and C. G. Murphy as the local district advisory committee and this ended the business. Increased Cream Supplies. The amount of cream being received at the Otorohanga factory shows an increase of 40 per cent over that received at the same period last season. Taking into consideration the whole of the N.Z. Dairy Co.'s fac- ! tories there is an increase on last •season of 54 per cent of cream being received. Xeir 'Bus for Seaside Visitors. Messrs Vincent Bros, have imported a 4 horse drag to seat 16 passengers as an addition to their plant to meet the expected demand by families etc., for conveyance to our seaside resort e.t Kawhia harbour. Fishing Season Opened. The opening of the local fishing season has not proved very exciting in the way of catches. Those anglers who have so far plied the rod state the firsh are shy and not inclined to take the bait. Hydro-Eieetrjc. It is reported that the Pio Pio people have been promised a Government permit for the establishment of a hydro-electric scheme in connection with the Wairere Falls. This is the district 'that refused to consider the question of joining with the suggested Te Kuiti Power Board scheme. Our informant tells us that the Minister has said the permit for Wairere would be granted, although it was against the policy he had formulated against tjp> licensing of small power boards.
