HOCKEY MATCHES.

The hockey season opened at Otorohanga yesterday, when the “Tuis” ladies’ club met the representatives of Taumarunui. The game was a strongly contested one throughout, hut at the call of half-time the visitors had scored two goals to Otorohanga’s one. The second portion of the game put a different aspect on things, and the willing play on both sides made the contest most interesting from a spectator’s point of view. The local girls soon brought the score equal, and then followed on with another goal, and the match ended in favour of Otorohanga by three goals to two. Our local players have become a club to be reckoned with, and there is every promise of a successful season before them. With the Taumarunui girls a team of Taumaranui male players 1 came up. and a scratch match between Otorohanga and them took place, resulting in an easy win for' Taumarunui. the score being Taumarunui 4, Otorohanga 0.
