TE AWAMUTU SCHOOLS.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The fortnightly meeting of the Te .Awamutu School Committee was held last evening, when' there were present: Messrs C. F. Battson (chairman), S. H. West, G. S. Clarke, T. D. Thomas, W. Mairs, C W. Rickit, P. 'Schwabe, find W. iSwain.

The chairman brought up the question ,of cleaning up the old school grounds, now that the building had been painted. Mr Rickit moved, and Mr West seconded, that a sum not exceeding £5 be s'pent on this work.— Carried.

The chairman reported that he had arranged to have a concrete ramp placed at the old school in lieu of a decayed wooden step. This would be rough finished to prevent slipping. The cost would be borne by the Education Board. The action was approved. Mr Rickit was appointed as one of the committee’s representatives on the technical advisory committee.

Mr West moved and Mr Clarke seconded that competitive designs, with prices, be invited 'for the erection of the wall. —Carried.

The chairman and Messrs Rickit and West were appointed a sub-committe to superintend the improvements at the school ground, and report to the committee anent the wall proposition; also in regard to securing" Roman rings, etc. It was decided to meet in future on alternative Wednesdays, at 7r?Q P- m -> the next meeting to be held on May 24th; that all orders for goods be sent through the secretary; and that various recommendations by the headmaster be given effect to. The headmaster reported that Mr I. Owsley had presented the school with a football; Mr J. T. Lees,, with a punching ball; Mr A. Pauli, two presentation books; Mr Lees, prizes for composition in standard IY. Mr P. Schwabe moved, and Mr West seconded, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded the donors. —Carried. The chairman reported that, in consultation with the teaching staff, it had been suggested the proposed concert should be deferred till after the forthcoming examinations. —This was agreed to. x Messrs F. Bowden and G. S. Clarke were appointed a visiting committee.

Accounts, amounting to £5 4s’ 5d were passed for payment, and the 'meeting terminated.
