CROQUET.

SUCCESSFUL “AT HOME.”

The Te Awamutu Croquet Club Ik ; an enviable reputation for the pleasure it affords its members and supporters. This reputation has been established over several years, during which the game has been played for the game’s sake —the club having been the rendezvous for happy and healthful recreation. At the close of each season .the club holds a re-union, which takes the form of a social, and in this way extends the goodwill which exists within its organisation to those who are less 1 directly associated with it. These fixtures prove uniformly successful and' popular. Last night the “At Home” to mark the close of the past season was held in the town hall, and everything combined to add to the club’s favourable record. The utmost good fellowship obtained, and everybody spent a most enjoyable evening. The president (Mrs C. F. Battson), and the secretary (Mrs B. A. Bray), in association with an energetic committee, had left nothing undone. The decorations were simple and gave a homely touch to the surroundings, the stage being ornamented with greenery and flowers. The floor was in capital order for dancing, and with Mr G. Dalton at the piano, it was a natural consequence that the dancers were amply provided for. In the ante-room card tables were an attraction to many. The supper L room bore every evidence of the hospitality of the Croquet Club; the spread was ample and of the best, and the table was prettily and attractively arranged. The masters of ceremonies for the evening were Messrs A. C. Cruickshank and P. W. Peate, and. they were considerate and attentive.

At suitable intervals songs were contributed by Mrs H. B. Walker and Mr G. Hes'sel, Mrs T. D. Thomas being the accompanist. Both singers were cordially welcomed and heartily appreciated. In every way the function was a ■successful and enjoyable one, and must do much to further popularise the Croquet Club. The attendance, though not large, was quite satisfactory, and all present had a very happy time.
