The Horotiu Works have been closed for the season. The Company is pleased to announce a further reduction in the rate for killing, freezing, and putting beef in quarters free on board steamer. The rate is now Id per lb, including one month’s storage. The Shipping Companies have also reduced the rate of freight on beef by id per lb, and the Railway Department has agreed to carry Cattle for killing at the Works for export at a reduction of 2i5 per cent' on present rates. The total costs on beef in quarters from arrival at Southdown until sold ex store England are now, after allowing for the walue of hides, fat, tongues, and tails, probably less than 2d per lb. This fact may decide farmers to kill their prime steers on their own account, and the Works will continue in operation to enable them to do so. MANURES. The Company’s Well-known Mixtures are available to Shareholders, prices having recently been considerably reduced.
