MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THURSDAY'S SITTING. A sitting of the Te Awamutu Magistrate's Court was held before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., on Thursday. Drunkenness. A first offender for drunkenness, who was penniless, was convicted and discharged. Breach of Prohibition Order.
Hiram Bell, charged with procuring whisky from premises unknown at Te Awamutu when under a prohibition order, pleaded guilty. Accused said he had not sought the liquor, which had come his way, and he had taken it. He was fined 20s and costs 7s. Possession of Firearms.
Frederick, Parsons, charged with the possession of a shotgun without a license under the Arms Act of 1920, pleaded guilty. Constable Doyle said Parsons had voluntarily come to register the arm. He was fined ss. Keeping Child From School,
The case of Tai Tumahaia, adjourned from last court day, a charge of failure to send his girl, aged 14 years to a public school, was called. Defendant did not appear ,and was fined 10s and costs 17s 3d.
Failing to Destroy Babbits.
E. J. Biehler, who had been given from the 17th of last month to clear rabbits from his farm, was given until 26th January to make a final effort, the magistrate stressing the fact that unless more was done defendant would be in trouble. Civil Cases.
Judgment was given in the case of G. M. A. Ahier v. A. Nicholls for the amount claimed, £6 lis sd; Boyce and Fawcett (Mr Downes) v. L. and D. Millen, £32 16s 7d, costs £3 '3s, solicitor's fee £2 lis 6d; A. Parris (Mr McCatre:). vF. S. Brown for 25, court costs £1 10si, solicitor's fee £1 lis. An order on a judgment summons was granted in the case of J. Robertson (Mr McCarter) v. T. Wright, £35 7s 9d, and Wright was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment in Auckland gaol, warrant to be suspended while 30s per month is paid into court. An order on a judgment summons was refused in the case of the Farmers' Trading Co. (Mr Swarbrick) V. E. Palmer, £2 16s 2d, An unusual course was taken by the magistrate, who, failing the appearance of the judgment debtor, put the clerk of the court into the box to testify to Palmer's position, and when it appeared that Palmer had six children, was a cripple, and was making a hard struggle without funds on a 'leasehold farm Mr Swarbrick declined to press the case.
