OHAUPO NEWS.

CHRIST CHURCH CHRISTMAS FAIR

For some time past the ladies associated with Christ Church, Ohaupo, have been working for the Christmas fair and sale of work which opened in Turnwald's hall yesterday afternoon. The hall was effectively decorated for the occasion, and the heavily-laden stalls of useful and fancy articles were evidence of the amount of work and time devoted to the making o£ such articles. The object of the sale of work is to raise funds for the new church, and there is every reason to hope that the effort will be rewarded, ed.

The Rev. C. W. Turner apologised for the absence of Mr J. A. Young, M.P., who wrote wishing them every success, and enclosed a donation toward the fund. He also referred to the absence of the Rev. Mr MortimerJones, who was away from the district, and expressed the of all at having the vicar of St. John's, Te Awamutu, and Mrs Niblook there for the opening of the fair, and also voiced the gratification of the assembly at the presence of Mr and Mrs F. T. New, of Kihikihi, who had on many occasions helped them in various ways. Mr Turner then called upon Mr Niblock to address the gathering. Mr Niblock in a pleasant speech trusted that the bazaar would be a success, and incidentally mentioned that people did not realise what a church meant to a community. There was need for a new church building at Ohaupo, and he hoped that their efforts that day would be a success. Mrs Niblock fittingly declared the bazaar open, and in doing so spoke encouragingly of the congregation's endeavours, and wished them every success.

Mr D. J. Graham moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Niblock and Mr and Mrs New for the interest shown by them in their work.—The vote was carried by acclamation. Business was then proceeded with. The stall-holders were: Ladies' Guild stall, Mesdames Stirling, West, Audley, and Robson; fancy stall, Mesdames Goebel and S. Hallett; produce stall, Mesdames S. J. Nobes and E. Ennion; flowers and plants, Mesdames A. J. Edwards, R. Burre'll, R. Ennion, and Miss Catchpole; lollies and icecream stall, Mesdames Anderson and Catchpole; tea rooms, Mesdames A. Turnwald, Holmes, and F. H. Gildett; Christmas tree, 'Mrs McNab. 'Mrs Burrell acted as secretary, and Mrs A. Turnwald was treasurer. Unfortunately the evening attendance was affected by the wet weather, but those present found much amusement in the various games and competitions, which created much interest. In the weight-guessing competition Mrs Titmargh and Mrs Nobes were successful. There were 19 entries for the vari* ous cookery competitions, in respect of which Mrs F. T. New (Kihifcihi) acted as judge. The bazaar is being continued this afternoon and evening.
