Messrs Moore and Hamilton, who comprised the crew of the launch destroyed 'by fire at sea recently on a voyage from Onehunga to Kawhia, had a very narrow escape indeed from death. The cause of the fire is thought to have been an explosion of an overheated benzine tank. Mr. Moore received severe burns, and had to jump overboard to extinguish the flames on his clothes. Mr Hamilton soon had to follow, but both managed to crawl on board the dinghy, from which they were rescued by the Arapawa a couple of hours later.
