Hon. G. W. Russell, and Champion are much perturbed about the Asiatic menace, which impels Champion to say a few words to his people on “ The Fallacy of Free Trade,” and in the meantime to continue fortifying on Muscle-Raiser Flour, topped off with Standard Soother Oatmea a.nd Roiled Oats, and all will be well. THE FALLACY OF FREE TRADE. MY DEAR PEOPLE, —I am credibly informed that some “ antediluvians ” are advocating Free Trade, which would be feasible if it were universal. Why do they not advocate the removal of the Alien Poll Tax? If it were done it would permit of a much lower rate of wage being paid, and a lower standard of production; also we would have the cost of maintenance of those subjects instead of their surplusages in goods, with the result that we would soon he brought down to the Asiatic level. Japan, India, and China are making rapid strides in manufacturing, and with cheap labour, augmented with modern machinery, they will ultimately be a menace to the British artisan, who has fought for his country; but evidently this is of little moment to the “ antediluvians.” as they appear anxious for cheap Jabour and goods without considering its disastrous effects to the British workers. I quite believe it you were now to offer them made-in-Germany good 3 at a trifle less than thoae of British manufacture their patriotism would vanish like smoke. I have spoken with much feeling.—V„ AUCKLAND. KEEP THE STANDARD UNFURLEU. THE RAINY SEASON. —LADIES* & CHILDREN’S — RAINCOATS! RAINCOATS! RAINCOATS! \ at Special Discount Prices —AT— R.
