Regarding the alleged bruising of fat stock on the railways, the president (Mr J. H. Duxfield) reported at •the anual meeting of the Farmers’ Union in Wellington the of representations made' to the district traffic manager of railways. He said that while admitting, that in isolated cases bruising might be the fault of engine drivers, that official expressed the opinion that most of the trouble was caused by horning and faulty trucking, as the result of too many or too few cattle being placed in a truck. As it was deemed advisable to secure all the information possible in order that strong representations might be made to the Railway Department to remedy the trouble, finally stated the president, the various branches of the Union had been circularised in connection with th’e matter.
