ALLEGED FORGERY.
A BETTING MAN ON TRIAL.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
Robert Fox was charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day - wijtli the forgery of three totalisator tickets and uttering the same to William ,H. Evatt on the final day of the last race / meeting at Trentham. Fox was arrested in Christchurch. The pay-out clerk at the totalisator said three tickets produced were on horse No. 7 on the inst race (No. 8). On or about 5.20 p.m. three tickets were presented for payment. They did not appear to be quite regular, and witness referred tjiem to the officer in charge. They were shown to the mechanic, who said they did not come out of the machine in that condition. The tickets had been bought presumably on another horse and had ,been altered. The number in the middle of each ticket was rubbed out, and No. 7 inserted. The word seven had also been put in in place of the number erased. Witness did not pay out. The case 'is proceeding.
