CHARGES OF FRAUD.
REMARKABLE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST YOUNG WOMAN. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Remarkable allegations of fraud were made in the Police Court against Christine Kate McDonald, aged 22, who was charged with, having obtained £136 2/ by false pretences. It is alleged that by posing as the daughter of a wealthy diamond merchant in New York, accused obtained £4l 2/ from T. Chatfield, of Herne Bay, and. members of his family, the remaining £95 it is alleged, was paid to her by Fritz Scholium a lands salesman, in the belief that her father was an officer in the Lands and Survey Department and that she had £4,503 ( in the post office savings band. Accused pleaded not guilty and reserved' 1 her defence for trial.
