Remarkable allegations of fraud were made in the Police Court against Christine Kate McDonald, aged 22, who was charged with, having obtained £136 2/ by false pretences. It is alleged that by posing as the daughter of a wealthy diamond merchant in New York, accused obtained £4l 2/ from T. Chatfield, of Herne Bay, and. members of his family, the remaining £95 it is alleged, was paid to her by Fritz Scholium a lands salesman, in the belief that her father was an officer in the Lands and Survey Department and that she had £4,503 ( in the post office savings band. Accused pleaded not guilty and reserved' 1 her defence for trial.
