ENTERTAINMENTS.

“HER OWN WAY.” The chief item on Saturday’s programme at the Empire Theatre, “Her Own Way,’’ is an absorbing story of a girl’s sacrifice for her brother and his butterfly wife, in which Florence Reed excels herself and proves the great artist she is. The supporting Rem include an excellent number of the Weekly Review, a most interesting animal study “Tigers,” and a breezy Christie comedy entitled “Their Breezy Affair. Billy Mason and Dorothy Dane play the leads in “Their Breezy Affair,” which borders on farce comedy. The hero of the play, desirous of making a thousand dollars quick in order to comply with the wishes of his sweetheart’s father, marries in secret a stranger for a week, at the end of which time he is released when the object the obtaining of which requires her appearing as a married woman has been attained. Complications occur which are rather amusing when he meets his sweetheart at the seashore. “MAGDA.” Clara Kimball Young’s latest film play, “ Magda,” taken from the famous stage classic of the same name, is a triumph of production. No expense lias been spared in its production, and, aside from Miss Young’s own splendid interpretation of the title role, she is supported by a company of high ability. * The drama is familiar to New Zealand audiences, having been played some years ago by Nance O’Neill when she toured the Dominion with McKee Rankin. Edward Kimball plays the part of Magda’s father, and, strange to say, he is also Clara Kimball Young’s father, and is an actor of repute and experience. “ Magda ” will be shown at the Empire Theatre next Tuesday evening.
