LIGHT RAILWAYS.
AND 'TIMBER RESOURCES.
CAPT. WORLEY AT KAWHIA. Capt. Worley and party have arrived by steamer to continue the engineering survey of the proposed light railway from Frankton to Kawhia, the survey of the Raglan branch having been completed. Progress from the Waitetuna junction through Moerangi has proceeded as far as bringing the line over the range into the Oparau Valley, and it is from this point that work is now to be carried on. Capt. Worley appears quite satisfied with the prospects, and has agreed to address a meeting,, when he • will discuss light railways generally, and their par ticular application locally. Speaking of the timber resources en route, he states that his estimate so far of the available rimu near the line is 12,000,000 feet, which, with other milling timber and an unlimited firewood market in Waikato, will form a substantial addition to the railway’s usefulness in transport. The cutting rights, we understand, have been secured by the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and the mills will be worked on co-operative lines. Capt. Worley’s address should prove very interesting and informative. —Kawhia Settler.
