lIEP. MATCH AT HAMILTON.

HAMILTON BEATS WAIPA

GOOD WORK BY GRIFFITHS,

The match at Hamilton on Saturday between the Waipa representatives at Hamilton eventuated in the presence of a large crowd of spectators, who included a goodly number of ladies, and keen interest was manifested in the game Lorn start to finish. The weather, though fine, gave indications of rain, and a few drops fell at one period. P / was even from the kick-' , for a time till Peach made a nice opening, hut hung on a trifle too long, and a fine chance of scoring was lost Hamilton were the aggressors, but Sutton relieved. It w s only momentarily, and from a mark in Waipa territory by Fitzgerald, Peebles had a shot at goal, but it fell short. In ■ v ' J • McGregor, by good play, got close to the visitors’ line, where Peach made a dash, but was brought down inches from the line. Hamilton kept up the attack, and both Peebles and C. Clarkin were again in turn grassed inches from the line. The locals were not to be denied, and from a strong rush, headed by Devine, Him ton snapped up, and dived over. The kick failed. Waipa pressed for a short interval, but Hamlilton again looked dangerous on several occasions, wild passing spoiling a couple of chances. Kiti was within an ace of scoring for the visitors, but Dufty was equal to the occasion. Griffiths put in a rather clever run, and it looked as though he would score, but Peebles was the obstacle. Hogg headed a great rush, and, snapping up, sent to Peach, to McGregor, to Devine, who scored behind the posts. Dufty added the major points. In the second quarter play was of an even nature, Carr and Tarr being responsible for some good defensive play for the visitors. Hamilton kept up the pressure, and Peach, who was playing a fine game, snapped up, and sent to McGregor, who was brought down inches from the line. Donaldson relieved, and sent to Dufty. who potted a neat goal. Waipa attacked for a while, and Morea missed a good clianc e of scoring through a knock-out. A penalty relieved the locals, but Carr, by magnificent play, swept the leather down the field, grassed his man, and, getting possession again, scored a pretty try. The kick was resultless. Sutton was unlucky in not scoring again l for the visitors. McGregor took play past midfield, where Peach got possession, and, cleverly beating' several oponents, sent to Hogg, who scored. Peebles just missed with the kick, and the spell ended —Hamilton, 15, Waipa 3. There was little between the teams on resuming, both attacking in turn for a time. In the local attack Peach made a great opening, and sent to Peebles, who passed back to Peach, the latter scoring a nice try near the corner. Peebles’ brilliant effort to convert missed by inches. The visitors now attacked with a vengeance, and Hamilton had m ny anxious moments defending, C. Clarkin being responsible for some fine saving. Waipa were rewarded at last by Griffiths cleverly beating several opponents, and scoring a beautiful try, which he converted. Waipa were easily holding their, own when the bell went for the final 1 quarter, and Griffiths very nearly scored again just after the commencement. Peebles got over for the locals, but lost the ball. From midfield Ormsby, with a fine dash of speed, got over near the corner for Waipa, making the scores—Hamilton 18, Waipa 11, at which the game finished. Mr J. Qualtrough controlled the game. TE AWAMUTU V. KAKEPUKU. Te Awamutu juniors met the Kakepuku team at the Kihikihi ground last Saturday. Both teams were well represented, and had a full muster. An evenly-contested game resulted in a win for Kakepuku by six points to three. Tries were scored by O’Reilly and H. Woolly for Kakepuku, and T. Hinton crossed the line for Te Awamutu, Clark, O’Reilly, Flay, and Ferguson were conspicuous for the Kakepuku team, and Quin, Rennells, Heta, and Harris for the visitors. The two full-backs are very promising, and should be heard of in the near future. Mr J. Corboy made a very efficient referee.
