AN AWFUL DILEMMA.
Dr. Tissot, a French physician living at Bonneville, near Geneva, was placed in a terrible dilemma. He had to choose between his duty to a patient and his love for his own son. Duty won, but the price was his son’s life.
The doctor received a telephone call from neighbouring village stating that a patient suffering from influenza was in a serious condition. He set out immediately in a carriage. Half-way to the village he was overtaken by a messenger on a motor cycle. He told the doctor that his son», aged 17, had fallen into a ravine while collecting Alpine flowers, and fractured his skull, and had been .brought home in a desperate condition.
What ought he to do ? Dr. Tissot hesitated a few moments, then drove on to see his patient. When he returned home he found his son dead. He could have been saved if the operation of trepanning had been carried out promptly.
