FALL INTO A CREEK.

CAR CRASHES THROUGH BRIDGE.

ONE SUSTAINS FRACTURED LEG.

A singular motor accident, and one that might have had very serious consequences, occurred on the Cam-bridge-Hairini Road on Saturday evening, when four Te Kuiti residents (two ladies and two gentlemen, who had been up golfing in Te Awamutu) had a narrow escape from death. As it was one lady sustained a broken leg.

Interviewed on Saturday nignt, practically immediately the accident occurred, one of the occupaats stated that the motor was proceeding at a fair pace along the road, with the lights burning, when suddenly, after a sharp curve, the car crashed into what appeared to be a broken log, and before any of the passengers had in any way realised what had taken place they found themselves .jlunged in the chilly water of a stream.

The men succeeded in helping the ladies out of the water, and it was then found that one lady had sustained a fracture of the leg.

On gaining the road it was found that, by a singular coincidence, the car had not dashed through the bridge at the moment of impact. It seemed to be hanging out to the road, through the broken railings, balancing on its rear wheels. Had the car fallen on top of its occupants their serious injury or death might have ensued.

Dr Hall attended to the injured lady and the others returned to their homes on Sunday evening, none the worse for their experience.
